Modern Day Stained Glass

11 x 14 inch canvas with a 1 3/8 inch white wooden frame. It is a mixed media piece consisting of textured gesso, acrylic paint and recycled glass. Completed November 16, 2012.

This painting is an experimental piece using broken glass which would normally be thrown away. Each glass is hand painted with different brush textures before being attached to the canvas. The frame is painted to become part of the piece itself. The glass shards are painted using primary colors and make new colors when stacked on top of each other. I like the overall look of the stacked broken glass on the canvas and will be working on more experiments with this recycled medium. It makes me think of it as a Modern Day Stained Glass.
